Juan Soto enjoyed a superb first campaign with the New York Mets, finishing the regular season with a .263 batting average, 43 home runs and 102 RBIs. As a result, he was one of the finalists for the NL MVP award.
However, it was LA Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani that ended up winning the prestigious prize for the second consecutive year.
MLB Network posted to X on Saturday, asking fans how they gauged Juan Soto's chances of winning an NL MVP award in the years to come.
"TRUE OR FALSE: Juan Soto will win a MVP Award in his career," the post read.
Fans appeared to be of the opinion that Soto's chances of beating Shohei Ohtani to the award were slim.
"Not as long as Ohtani exists. Fact is fact," a fan wrote.
"False. Ohtani will stand in his way for his entire prime," another fan commented.
"Not while Ohtani is still in the National League," another fan replied.
"Is Shohei Ohtani going to continue to exist in the National League? Yes? Then false," another fan responded.
"Will anyone as long as Shohei is playing?" another fan shared.
"Only if Soto continues to play after Ohtani retires," another fan posted.
Despite Juan Soto's best efforts, the New York Mets shockingly missed out on the postseason in 2025
As they signed Juan Soto to the largest ever contract in big league history to wrap up some promising offseason business, most fans expected big things from the New York Mets in 2025.
Initally, it appeared they would go on to live up to those expectations, as they opened up a sizeable lead atop the NL East in the first half of the season. However, a difficult second half saw them fall behind to the Philadelphia Phillies.

In addition to missing out on top spot in the division, a late collapse also saw the Mets catastrophically fail to secure qualification to the postseason, as the Cincinnati Reds finished above them in the wildcard standings on the final day of the regular season.
