Nathaniel Lowe and wife Brenna celebrate 1-year anniversary amid Red Sox’s stunning decision to cut ties with 1B

Nathaniel Lowe was designated for assignment (DFA) by the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday in a flurry of moves to make space for prospects for the 40-man roster deadline ahead of the Rule 5 Draft. However, he isn't letting the roster removal dampen his spirits as he celebrated his first anniversary with his wife, Brenna.

Nathaniel Lowe and Brenna got married in the 2024 offseason following their engagement a few months prior in May. The two enjoyed an icy, crystal-themed wedding by Lake Emerald in Alberta, Canada.

The couple shared snaps of their "best day" against a snowy background. Nathaniel posted a picture of the two holding hands after the pair exchanged vows, while Brenna posted a clip of the two embracing and stunning post-wedding images in front of the scenic beauty of Lake Emerald.

"Happy anniversary to my best friend. The boys and I are so thankful for you!! We love you so much [Brenna]," Lowe wrote.

By "boys", Lowe alluded to their two pet German Shepherds, Gus and Mondo, and their newborn, Barrett, born in August this year.

Nathaniel Lowe is expected to head into free agency as he was DFA'd by the Red Sox, and there are few chances of teams taking up his $13.5 million arbitration contract for 2026. Lowe, because of reaching Super Two status in 2023, was eligible for a fourth year in arbitration.

The first baseman earned $10.3 million via arbitration in 2025 from the Washington Nationals. He was released in August after recording a .216 average with 16 home runs and 68 RBIs. He was picked up by the Red Sox, where he had an improved performance, batting at a .280 clip with 2 home runs and 16 RBIs from just 100 at-bats.

Nathaniel Lowe and wife Brenna welcomed their son, Barrett Ray Lowe, on August 28 this year. Brenna shared a heartwarming video on Tuesday of their baby boy gleefully smiling as his mother played with his tiny feet.

"And what better way to spend today than with our happy lil guy, like come on!!!" Brenna captioned.

Heading into free agency, the Lowe family would hope for a long-term home. He had been an above-average first baseman for the Texas Rangers from 2021 through 2024. In four years, he hit at .274 while conjuring a combined 124 wRC+. Teams may look to sign him for a lesser annual value than his arbitration amount.
