Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts co-hosted the third annual MLB Awards with comedian Roy Wood Jr. at The Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on Thursday night.During the show, the Dodgers star made a comment that did not sit well with many fans. When asked where he was in 1991, Betts joked:"I was in my Daddy's balls, I wasn't even born yet 😂"Several fans found this comment from Mookie Betts inappropriate."Love Mookie but low class response," one fan wrote."He was absolutely insufferable. His interaction with Skubal was the most cringe s*it I’ve ever seen. Dookie can’t hit and he certainly can’t host," another fan wrote."4 rings for bro Wildin 😂😂 " one fan added."Gross," one fan said."Mookie needs to at least give 'some' of a fuq, right? Guess not 🤣" one fan reacted."Dude is so cringe it hurts," one fan commented.Mookie Betts reveals reason behind his natural hosting skillsWhile Mookie Betts may have courted controversy with one of his jokes, most of the night went without a hitch. Betts appeared to be in his element hosting the Awards Night, which was attended by several MLB stars, including Ronald Acuña Jr., Cal Raleigh, CC Sabathia and Juan Soto.Betts revealed that no part of his upbringing suggested that he would excel with speeches."This is something I never, ever wanted to do," Betts said. "Growing up, I didn't want to give speeches. I didn't want to do any of those things. … Sports, that's all I did. It's just really weird that I'm good at this, because this is not even really close to how I grew up."He suggested that the reason he felt so comfortable was that he was the only child in his family."Because I was an only child, everything I did," Betts said, "I was competing with myself over and over again because I didn't have anybody to play with. … I just think that just carries into everything. Just learned behavior."Betts had a slightly disappointing season in terms of numbers, but he was a part of the Dodgers team that won the World Series after defeating the Toronto Blue Jays in seven games.
