The New York Mets are looking for power hitters in the offseason after a second-half slump saw them finish without October baseball.

The Mets are linked with their former first baseman Pete Alonso, who opted out of his contract with a year remaining at the end of the season. Alonso had a strong 2025 season with the Mets and is looking for a long-term deal, likely setting him up for the rest of his career.

However, according to Mets insider Sal Litca, the Mets will be offering a three-year deal for the All-Star first baseman. Litca said that New York are unlikely to get Alonso to signa three year deal.

Meanwhile, reigning World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers are linked with Japanese free agent free agent Munetaka Murakami. The Japanese infielder, who hit 56 home runs in the 2022 season in the NPB, is renowned for his power hitting.

While the Dodgers are favored to sign the Japanese third baseman, MLB insider Mark Feinsand thinks the Seattle Mariners could be a interesting fit for the 25-year-old slugger.

"Everybody loves to connect Japanese free agents to the Mariners because of the Ichiro connection," Mark Feinsand said. But they haven’t really dipped into that market very heavily in the last 10-15 years…

"That said, Murakami is a great fit there. They need to replace Eugenio Suarez at third base. Big power bat. Murakami was one of the best home run hitters in Japan. It seems like a good fit."

Mets unlikely to agree long-term deal for All-Star infielder Pete Alonso

According to reports, Pete Alonso is seeking a long-term deal with the Mets, but Steve Cohen's team, who were in a contract stand-off last offseason, are unlikely to meet the All-Star slugger's demands.

The Mets are reportedly looking at other options with the likes of Pete Alonso and Kyle Schwarber available in free agency. It'll be interesting to see if Alonso re-signs for the team on a shorter deal or heads to a new team.
