The Boston Red Sox continue to be in the market for a power-hitting infielder this offseason as the AL East franchise has been linked with Texas Rangers star Corey Seager.
Tim Haeley of The Boston Globe reported that the Red Sox have talked to the Rangers about the All-Star shortstop over a potential trade amid rumored interest in other high-profile infielders.
The Red Sox have been linked with a return for Alex Bregman after the All-Star third baseman opted out of his contract with the team at the end of last season.
A deal for Seager, two-time World Series MVP, won't be easy as the five-time All-Star is owed $189 million over six years of his 10-year, $325-million contract he signed in 2021.
According to Healey, the AL East franchise have also talked to the Houston Astros for All-Star third baseman Isaac Paredes. Boston has also inquired about St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Brendan Donovan.
Amid their interest in All-Star-caliber infielders, Boston traded versatile infielder Vaughn Grissom to the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. The Red Sox received Minor League outfielder Isaiah Jackson in return from the Angels.
Angels made the move for Grissom due to his ability to play multiple infield positions, making him a potential replacement for Luis Rengifo, who became a free agent at the end of last season.
Angels hoping former Red Sox infielder Vaughn Grissom comes good for Halos
Vaughn Grissom struggled for the Red Sox after being traded from the Atlanta Braves for veteran ace Chris Sale before the 2024 season. He slashed .190/.246/.219 with no homers and six RBIs in 31 games in 2024 and didn't feature for the team in 2025.
Grissom batted .270/.342/.441 with 13 homers and 48 RBIs in 96 games with Triple-A Worcester before his season ended in September due to a plantar fasciitis injury.
Despite his underwhelming numbers, Angels general manager Perry Minasian is hoping he'll come good for the Halos.
“Sometimes guys need to change the scenery,” Minasian said. “And obviously, he was a highly regarded prospect at one time. And was traded for a big-time player and all those things. Sometimes things don't work out in one place and there's a better fit in another. So, we're hoping that's the case.”
Meanwhile, the Red Sox remain in talks with former Toronto Blue Jays infielder Bo Bichette in free agency.
