The San Francisco Giants have been linked with a few pitchers in the offseason and the NL West team is now rumored to be interested in All-Star closer Devin Williams.
Williams is coming off a rocky lone season with the New York Yankees after being traded by the Milwaukee Brewers last offseason. While he posted a 4.79 ERA in 62 innings, he had a solid 34.7% strikeout rate for the Bronx Bombers.
According to reports, the Giants' interest in Williams has emerged in the wake of their bullpen issues with closer Randy Rodriguez undergoing Tommy John surgery in August, ruling him out for most of the 2026 season.
While the NL West team is looking to fortify the bullpen by signing the former Yankees closer, New York's rival, the Boston Red Sox, has amped up its interest in All-Star slugger Pete Alonso.
Alosno, who returned to the Mets last offseason to end his lengthy free agency, opted out of his contract at the end of the season to become a free agent for a second consecutive year.
He posted a career-best .272 batting average and his second-most RBIs in a single year, 126, while playing all 162 regular-season games for the Mets. His strong numbers have attracted Boston's interest, which is looking to add an All-Star bat to the lineup after losing Alex Bregman to free agency.
Red Sox expected to strongly pursue Pete Alonso, rivaling Mets' interest in All-Star slugger this offseason
The Red Sox are expected to strongly pursue one of Pete Alonso, Kyle Tucker and Kyle Schwarber, while the team is also expected to offer a lucrative deal to bring back Alex Bregman to Boston.
The Red Sox could use Alonso's power-hitting capabilities as a DH and could also deploy him in his usual role at first base with uncertainty around first baseman Triston Casas after a left patellar tendon rupture ended his 2025 season in May.
