Three of the most highly-regarded free agents on the market, Alex Bregman, Kyle Schwarber and Pete Alonso continue to be linked to a number of top teams. All three stars enjoyed standout 2025 seasons, earning an All-Star selection each.According to insider Steve Phillips, acquiring Alex Bregman and either of Kyle Schwarber or Pete Alonso could be a worthwhile move for the Chicago Cubs. Speaking to MLB Network Radio on Friday, Phillips explained what he feels should be the Cubs' plan of action this winter. "Here's what, in the ideal world, I'd love to see for them (Chicago Cubs)," Phillips said. "They sign either (Kyle) Schwarber or (Pete) Alonso to DH. They sign (Alex) Bregman to play third, and they go get a quality starting pitcher. They can't do it within $50 million, but they can do it within $70 million. It would take them over the luxury tax threshold, but you're the Chicago Cubs! "You're the Chicago Cubs, why can't you be $20 million over the luxury tax threshold and actually put the finishing pieces together on your team? You know what I mean? Go out and get the starter - (Ranger) Suarez or Framber Valdez, get Bregman and then get a slugger in your lineup and really go out there and win. If they want to go to the World Series, that's what they need to do."Kyle Schwarber and Pete Alonso could be on the Boston Red Sox's radar if Alex Bregman moves on, per insiderAccording to insider Jen McCaffrey, Kyle Schwarber or Pete Alonso could be one of the players the Boston Red Sox pivot to, in case Alex Bregman decides to sign elsewhere this winter."(Red Sox CBO) Craig Breslow, at the GM meetings, was pretty definitive about the top priorities being adding to the rotation, (signing) a starter to slot right behind (Garrett) Crochet, and adding a power bat in the middle of the lineup," McCaffrey said. "To us, that says we're going hard after (Pete) Alonso, (Kyle) Schwarber in the mix as well. Maybe one of the Japanese free-agent hitters as well."You need home run potential. They had injuries at the end of the season with Roman Anthony and Wilyer Abreu, but Trevor Story was their highest home run hitting total with 25 last year. They need more than that and they know that. I think that's going to be the next big priority for them."Alex Bregman in action for the Red Sox - Source: GettyAlex Bregman, Kyle Schwarber and Pete Alonso are all projected to secure a deal in the range of $150 million this offseason.
