The New York Yankees are reportedly looking to bring back All-Star outfielder Cody Bellinger after his strong 2025 season with the team.
The Bronx Bombers are also linked with a move for another All-Star outfielder, Kyle Tucker, in free agency. The AL East franchise have already tied down Trent Grisham, leaving young outfielder Jasson Dominguez in a tough spot.
If the Yankees re-sign Bellinger, Dominguez would likely become the fourth choice outfielder. MLB insider Bryan Hoch proposed the Yankees trade either Dominguez or outfield prospect Spencer Jones.
Jones has been one of the most sought-after talents in the Yankees' farm system, and his hitting ability has made him a top candidate for a call-up next season, especially after hitting 35 home runs across Double-A and Triple-A last season.
Dominguez's debut season in 2023 was cut short after a UCL injury that required Tommy John surgery. He spent last season mostly in left field and often as a designated hitter.
While he provided decent power in the middle of the hitting order, Dominguez failed in his role as an outfielder. He posted -10 Outs Above Average and -7 Defensive Runs Saved while patrolling left field.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman reflects on offseason pursuit of top free agents
The Yankees are linked with Cody Bellinger and Kyle Tucker in the offseason and they will have to splash considerable cash to sign two of the top free agents.
However, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said there is a limit to which the team can pursue top targets in free agency.
“There’s certain salary levels we’ll tag out at,” Cashman said. “That’s yet to be determined. At times, we’ve driven hard and still not gotten things done because the markets take it -- whether it was [Yoshinobu] Yamamoto or [Juan] Soto, they go on and on to places you never expected.”
If the Yankees sign either Bellinger or Tucker, the team might put either Jasson Dominguez or Spencer Jones on the trading block to make space on the payroll.
