Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor are both key figures for the New York Mets, who played together for the first time in 2025 after the former came to the Queens on a 15-year, $765 million deal. While the duo couldn't help the Mets make the postseason in 2025, they both had stellar seasons individually. On Friday, the New York Post's Mike Puma reported that Soto and Lindor had a "chilly" relationship during the campaign. Both have different interests, as the insider continued:"Soto is very businesslike, all business, no fluff. He wants to come to the yard and work his tail off and win games. He's not into fashion or any of that stuff. Lindor is into that. It's just two different personalities."During the season, there were also discussions about leadership as Puma reported that there were "questions over who exactly was leading the team." He even claimed that Lindor "seemed to lose some of his grasp on the clubhouse."Why wasn't Francisco Linfor named Mets captain? The Mets contemplated choosing a captain for the 2025 season. Francisco Lindor appeared to be the logical choice to become the next Mets captain after David Wright. The shortstop also showed excitement about the possibility of becoming the Mets captain."I definitely wouldn't take a title like that lightly... It would be extremely special. It's something that I could tell my kids and my grandkids one day," Lindor said.Meanwhile, midway into the season, when Soto was asked about the team's leader, he named Starling Marte. Thus, in the presence of several leadership figures like Juan Soto and Pete Alonso, the Mets ultimately decided not to name anyone as the captain."That's not a reflection on Lindor, whom teammates and officials believe would be an excellent organizational steward," MLB.com's Anthony DiComo wrote. "It's simply an acknowledgement that the Mets' leadership picture is a nuanced one."With Soto and Lindor heading into the 2026 season side by side, the Mets expect the two to take the leadership of the group and deliver them results they have long been waiting for.
