The New York Yankees have a few decisions to take about their outfield for next season. The team resigned Trent Grisham via a qualifying offer this week, pairing him up with Aaron Judge as confirmed pieces.

However, General Manager Brian Cashman told reporters on Thursday that the team has two vacant outfield positions left. The Yankees have been linked with outfielders Kyle Tucker and Cody Bellinger, two major free agents.

That has put question marks over youngster Jasson Dominguez's position in the team considering they have No.4 prospect Spencer Jones waiting in the wings.

Fans reacted to the news on X, stating that Dominguez could be on the way out.

"JD is cooked," a fan said.

"That means if he doesn't hit in spring training another NYY top prospect bites the dust," another fan said.

"Just remember that Anthony volpe got years to be ass. Dominguez was a top 5 bat for the Yankees and he’s being sidelined for it," a fan wrote.

"Sickening watching them ruin another prospect in real time," a fan stated.

"He’s going to be traded for a pitcher," a fan added.

Dominguez had a decent 2025 season, hitting at .257 with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs and .719 OPS. He started 94 games in left field and was also adjudged 13th on the American League Rookie of the Year voting.

His above average stats in his rookie season make him a possible trade candidate. The Yankees are reportedly looking to sign either Cody Bellinger or Kyle Tucker in free agency.

But if the team were to get both and play Bellinger at first base, they wouldn't be in need of an extra outfield option in Dominguez. Even if the Yankees sign either of Bellinger or Tucker, they have been linked with a probable trade for Corey Seager to upgrade their shortstop position. That could also make the Texas Rangers a possible destination for Dominguez.

Brian Cashman trusting Trent Grisham to play outfield

On Tuesday, Trent Grisham accepted a $22.025 million qualifying offer from the Yankees for the 2026 season, avoiding free agency. The outfielder hit a career high 34 home runs in the regular season but batted at a .235 clip. Nevertheless, Cashman is trusting Grisham to continue that form next year.

“He had a hell of a year for us,” Cashman said before Tuesday’s decision was announced. “He was one of the big reasons why we had the level of success we did. We’d be happy if he accepted and came back.”

Grisham is set to get a massive pay raise from the $5 million he earned in 2025 in arbitration. Him taking up outfield duties will be crucial in Dominguez's context heading into Spring Training.
