Drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 2018, Grayson Rodriguez spent two seasons with the AL East outfit, establishing himself as an important part of the starting rotation.

Despite being relatively young aged 26, and having shown plenty of promise so far, the O's decided to trade Rodriguez to the LA Angels on November 18, acquiring slugger Taylor Ward in exchange.

While analyzing the move on Sunday's episode of "Hot Stove", Cincinnati Reds Hall of Famer Sean Casey felt the trade could be one that the Orioles might regret if Grayson Rodriguez lives up to his potential.

While explaining his thoughts, Casey drew parallels between Rodriguez's recent trade and Tyler Glasnow's trade from the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018.

"The Rodriguez thing is interesting," Casey said. "For whatever reason, Tyler Glasnow pops into my head. Tyler Glasnow used to be with the Pirates, and they felt he was not throwing enough strikes. Yeah, well, you're just going to trade him? They trade him, he becomes one of the best pitchers in the game.

"Grayson Rodriguez was the top prospect in baseball at one point, and if he's healthy, it could be a Tyler Glasnow situation, where you're like 'oh wow, this guy turned out to be great, did you know he used to be with the Orioles?'"

After six successful seasons with the Rays, Tyler Glasnow joined the LA Dodgers, where he has won the World Series twice.

"We've got high expectations" - Angels GM Perry Minasian speaks about Grayson Rodriguez's acquistion

Shortly after the Grayson Rodriguez - Taylor Ward trade was finalized, LA Angels general manager Perry Minasian shared his opinion on Rodriguez.

Though the executive is well-aware of the injury concerns Rodriguez has endured in recent years, bringing in a pitcher of his ability was an too good of an opportunity for the Angels to pass up.

"Is there risk? Yes, there's risk. It's eyes wide open on the risk," Minasian said. "That being said, it's four years of control. It's somebody that, when he pitches, can beat anybody on any given night. The weapons he has and the ability to throw strikes, it's a combination that some of the best in the game have. We've got high expectations. He's somebody we're really excited to have."

Taylor Ward's departure also frees up his $14 million salary, which the Angels can use to strengthen other parts of their squad ahead of 2026.
