The New York Mets signed All-Star closer Devin Williams in free agency amid uncertainty around the return of veteran closer Edwin Diaz, who opted out of his contract at the end of the season. While Williams switched to the Yankees' rivals in the offseason, MLB analyst Sa Litca is surprised by the Yankees not going after the former Mets closer."Think of headline for a second, 'Yankees not expected to be a threat to sign Diaz' why not? They should be a threat to sign everybody," Litca said. "I'm not saying That Diaz is better than Bednar. I'm not saying I'd give five years $100 million, but why wouldn't the Yankees be a threat to sign Diaz and have him be your closer and Bednar be the eighth inning guy."The Mets can get down. Devin wants to be the eighth-inning guy, and then have Diaz be the ninth-inning guy. Now, again, there's a lot of money involved there, but the point that it's the Yankees, Why wouldn't they be a threat? They should always be a threat to all the best players. He's one of the best players in the game, the best closer in the Market."While Diaz is among the players the Mets' want to re-sign this offseason, the arrival of Williams has reportedly slimmed the chances of New York bringing back the former Mets closer.
