Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal enjoyed a fantastic campaign in 2025. Finishing the regular season with a 13-6 record, a 2.21 ERA and 241 strikeouts, the southpaw played a vital role in helping his team make the postseason, ending the year with his second consecutive AL Cy Young award.

Despite being the Tigers' most influential player, however, Skubal may still be on his way out of the Motor City this winter. Set to be a free agent this time next year, negotiations for an extension have reportedly reached a dead end, and Detroit might decide to salvage some value while it still can.

As a result, some of the biggest franchises in baseball have been linked with Skubal, and the two-time All-Star's future has been the subject of plenty of speculation.

Rapper Ice Cube's son, O'Shea Jackson Jr., is backing the LA Dodgers to eventually secure Skubal's services.

"Dodgers bouta get Tarik Skubal holy sh*t," O'Shea Jackson Jr. posted to X on Sunday.

If such a trade does materialize, Tarik Skubal's addition to a starting pitching rotation already boasting elite talent such as Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow, will undoubtedly make the Dodgers' pitching staff the most formidable in the major leagues, at least on paper.

"It's not like I want to be traded" - Tarik Skubal distances himself from trade rumors

Appearing on November 20's episode of Foul Territory, Tarik Skubal addressed the trade rumors surrounding him, making his stance clear on the situation.

"The way social media is, it's hard not to see things about yourself, especially when it's talking about trades and kind of all those hypotheticals," Skubal said. "It's not (going to impact the way I'm going to work out or the way I'm going to throw or prepare to get my body ready to go for another season. So it's all out of my control. I think as a player, you don't really like, I mean, unless you want to be traded, but like, that's a whole different situation.

"But it's not like I want to be traded. So it is, it does kind of like, you know, 'hey, why am I in this? Why am I in this conversation to begin with?'... I try to just stay off of it and not look at it."

Skubal's admission will make for relieving news for Tigers fans, who will be hoping their ace stays put for at least one more season.
