George Springer’s wife Charlise reacts as Blue Jays' slugger claims Silver Slugger at DH after big bounce-back season

Toronto Blue Jays' George Springer was awarded the American League Silver Slugger award for the Designated Hitter position after a stellar 2025 season. This was his third Silver Slugger award, having previously won in 2017 and 2019 during his time with the Houston Astros.

Springer got a special shoutout on Instagram from his biggest fan, his wife, Charlise. She took to Instagram to post stories about the announcement.

The couple has been married for the last seven years. They share a son, born in November 2020, and a daughter, born in October 2023.

Springer had a dismal 2024, where he hit at .220 with a .674 OPS and 91 OPS+, 19 home runs, and 56 RBIs in 140 games. Statistically, it was his worst career season since his MLB debut in 2014. In a total turnaround, the 36-year-old hit .309 with 32 home runs and 84 RBIs with a .959 OPS and 161 OPS+. All of his major stats ranked him inside the top three among all qualified American League DHs.

Springer was chosen over Yandy Diaz of the Tampa Bay Rays and Brent Rooker of the Athletics, the other finalists for the Silver Slugger. Diaz hit at a .300 pace with 25 home runs and 83 RBIs with an .848 OPS, while Rooker, one of the promising youngsters in the sport, hit at .262 with 30 home runs and 89 RBIs and .814 OPS.

Springer's Toronto teammates Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette were also nominated finalists in the first baseman and shortstop positions, respectively, but weren't named winners. Athletics' Nick Kurtz was named ahead of Guerrero, while Kansas City Royals' Bobby Witt Jr. got the nod at shortstop.

George Springer played through oblique inflammation during the World Series

During Game 3 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium, George Springer fouled off a ball on his foot that required immediate action from the team's trainers. He missed the next two games in Los Angeles before returning to the lineup for the Toronto return leg.

According to Blue Jays General Manager Ross Atkins, speaking during the end-of-the-season conference on Thursday, indicated that the four-time All-Star was dealing with an oblique inflammation.

"No, it was not a tear. There was, as it was reported, there was significant inflammation," Atkins reported. [41:00] The MRI wasn't showing an injury. It's about the total presentation and how they present in a physical exam and then what the MRI reads. But his toughness was able to help him overcome it.

Oblique injuries troubled Springer in 2021, his first year with the Blue Jays. He will be expected to recover in time and be fully fit for Spring Training in March.
