For seven seasons, Edwin Diaz proudly put on the Mets uniform. But the reliever will have a new home, as he joins the Los Angeles Dodgers on a three-year, $69 million contract.The Diaz family bid goodbye to Queens and the Mets faithful, with wife Nashaly penning a heartwarming message on Instagram on Friday. But several factors led to his departure.Diaz wasn't happy after the Mets' flash firing in October of some of their coaching staff, included Jeremy Hefner, their pitching coach. Hefner had helped Diaz become one of the best relievers in the world in his six seasons at the club.The Mets' signing Devin Williams also didn't sit well with him as Diaz, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan, wasn't informed by the team. His usual #39 that he has played with for all of his MLB career, initially with the Seattle Mariners and the Mets, was retired by the Dodgers organization."We got three kids, so that's the reason I picked No. 3, because of my three sons," Díaz told reporters on Friday. "I was hoping to get the No. 39, but after I checked, the number was retired. So they sent me the list of numbers. I think that was the most obvious [choice] for me."Edwin Diaz and his wife, Nashaly, have been married since February 2019. The couple welcomed their eldest, Jaihel, into their lives in 2016. Sebastian was born in August 2021 and they welcomed their newest born, Lucas Jose in May 2024.
