Former Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber is one of the most coveted free agents this offseason after his career year with the NL East team in 2025.
The veteran designated hitter, who slugged his way to 56 home runs last season, has drawn interest from several teams this offseason, with his former team, the Phillies, considered the favorites in his sweepstakes.
Schwarber is joined by several high-profile names like Pete Alonso, Cody Bellinger, Alex Bregman, Bo Bichette, and Kyle Tucker in this year's free agency class.
However, according to MLB insider Buster Olney, Schwarber is expected to be the first "superstar" to finalize his deal this offseason.
"The perception in some corners of the industry is that Kyle Schwarber might be the first of the superstar position players to make his choice," Olney wrote on X. "Orioles among those competing with the Phillies."
Olney named Orioles the among the team's fteamsg for Schwarber's signature amid reports of an offer from the Pittsburgh Pirates last week.
MLB insider claims Pirates' offer could swell Kyle Schwarber's contract
The Pittsburgh Pirates reportedly offered Kyle Schwarber a four-year contract worth around $100 million. However, the Athletic's Matt Gelb downplayed Schwarber's potential move to Pittsburgh.
Although Schwarber might end up back in Philadelphia, Gelb claimed that the ongoing negotiations and the Pirates' offer will increase his price this offseason.
"It’s unclear how detailed actual negotiations between the Phillies and those two players have been. The delay in reaching any agreements might have nothing to do with a gulf between the sides.
"There is no standoff, at least not yet. The Pittsburgh offer, plus whatever else Schwarber has on the table, could push the Phillies to a larger number,” Gelb wrote.
Schwaber's power hitting ability has made him the most coveted hitter in free agency with several teams in need of impactful bats in their lineup.
