Former MLB GM Ruben Amaro Jr. believes Fernando Tatis Jr. could inject a different kind of energy and personality in the Philadelphia Phillies clubhouse. While San Diego Padres trading Tatis is highly unlikely, the outfielder's name is on the rumor mill due to the team ownership exploring a sale.

Amaro was the GM of the Phillies from 2009 to 2015. He shared his thoughts about Tatis' impact on Wednesday's episode of "Phillies Show" with insiders Todd Zalecki and Jim Salisbury.

"You talk about changing up the clubhouse a little bit and giving it a little new type of energy, having a (Fernando) Tatis, whether it's plus or minus, it's energy," Amaro said (Timestamp: 17:42).

"I mean, that's why (Harrison) Bader, I think, was so impactful for the team in a positive way," he added. "They've got a lot of guys that are sort of good dudes, very professional, but maybe they need a little salsa in that."

Fernando Tatis Jr. is among the most talented players in MLB. After debuting for the Padres in 2019, the outfielder has earned three All-Star selections and two All-MLB first team selections.

Tatis is also an exceptional fielder, having won the NL Platinum Glove Award in 2023 and 2025. He has also won two Silver Slugger Awards and was the NL home run leader in 2021.

Padres insider shuts down Fernando Tatis Jr. trade rumors

Fernando Tatis Jr. signed a 14-year, $330 million contract extension in 2021, which runs through his age 35 season in 20235. The contract initially appeared immovable. However, free agents recently have signed contracts worth more than $500 million, making Tatis' deal look like a bargain.

Moreover, the Seidler family, the majority owners of the team, announced in mid-November that they would evaluate a potential sale. However, insider Marty Caswell doesn't think the Padres would ever trade Tatis. She shared her thoughts on "Friar Territory."

"I can't imagine them trading their most marketable star," Caswell said (Timestamp: 7:44). "One of the most marketable stars in baseball, forget just in San Diego. He's a fan favorite. He is so highly popular. When you talk about the skillset of the players they do have, there's no one that has better tools than Tatis."

Outside MLB, Fernando Tatis Jr. has endorsements with major brands like Gatorade, Hyperice and Mizuno. Previously, Tatis had deals with Adidas, Corona USA and Jack in the Box. He lost the Adidad deal following his 2022 PED suspension.
