Pete Alonso left the New York Mets in free agency and signed a five-year, $155 million deal with the Baltimore Orioles. Alonso started his MLB career with the Mets and was a key part of the franchise for the last seven years. Many thought that the Mets and Alonso would be able to find a middle ground on a deal, but it appears they couldn't. On Friday, Alonso sat before reporters to discuss his signing with the Orioles. The first baseman shared the reason why he signed with the Orioles."I think, as the free-agent process starts, you really don’t know what’s going to happen," Alonso said. "It’s kind of like this weird baseball limbo. But as you start to sit down and really think about things, you get some time to reflect. Honestly, as the offseason progressed and we got further along, this partnership -- for me -- was just head and shoulders above everybody else. This park, this city, this team, this organization, everything combined, just clicked."I think it was absolutely the perfect fit, not just as a player, but for family life too. I could go up and down a laundry list of things, there are just so many boxes. Every single box this place checks. For us, we’re just so pleased. And for this organization to see me not just in the now, but in the future, it’s such a blessing. I can’t wait to play, I can’t wait to perform, and I can’t wait to win games."The deal the Orioles gave to Pete Alonso was something the first baseman wanted last year. He couldn't find a suitor then and he was hoping the Mets could come around on the length of the contract. The first baseman signed a two-year deal, and after a stellar 2025 season, he opted out to become a free agent again. The decision served him well as he now has a long-term contract he always wanted.Pete Alonso's agent Scott Boras reveals Orioles' excitement to sign 1BPete Alonso's agent, Scott Boras, is known to represent top-tier players in the MLB.
