However, fans are concerned for the Japanese star, who signed a $700 million contract with the Dodgers ahead of the 2024 season.

"I hope he does not. I don't want to see him get hurt. I also understand - he has pride and does not want to let his home country down. I also believe Dave said he did not want Ohtani to PITCH in the tournament."

"Japan’s loving that Ohtani is committing to the 2026 WBC but the reaction back home has two clear themes: Huge pride that he’ll represent Japan again, and real concern about his arm after surgery. So the sentiment isn’t anti-pitching. it’s pro-Ohtani’s longevity. Let him mash."

"Not at all comfortable him doing this."

"Our front office need to understand that we don't own his time. He's made a commitment to his country, we can't get in the way of that, no matter the risks."

"I feel a bit uneasy when I think about the Dodgers aiming for a third consecutive championship, but I respect Ohtani for standing up for Japan."

"Worried."

The concern stems from the fact that Ohtani resumed his two-way role for the first time this year after undergoing a second Tommy John surgery in 2023.
