The Angels' Anthony Rendon is projected to be the highest-paid hot corner specialist ahead of the 2026 season. Per Spotrac, the third baseman currently leads the pack when it comes to annual salary at a staggering $35 million that can rise up to $38.6 including add-ons, with Carlos Correa in second and Nolan Arenado in third.
Rendon's inability to remain on the field have made him a liability in terms of being a huge investment for Anaheim as he has only played 205 out of the 810 available games in the past five years. Given the cutthroat nature of the league, baseball fans expressed their sentiment regarding the third baseman's injury-prone reputation across the league.

After a productive career with the Nationals that bore a World Series title and three top six finishes in the NL MVP race, Rendon inked a seven-year, $245 million deal with the Angels ahead of the 2020 season. Although he had a respectable start for the team in the shortened campaign, the third base star eventually got bitten by the injury bug that has been plaguing him up to this day.
With Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman exercising free agency this offseason, there's still a shot that Rendon's massive wage sum would be eclipsed. However, his standing amongst the league's best hot corner stars could be questioned given the lack of sample size he's provided.
Angels name Kurt Suzuki as new manager
The Angels recently named former player Kurt Suzuki as its latest skipper. On October 22, the former backstop was unveiled to the press as the team's next manager, replacing Ron Washington. It can be recalled that Washington missed most of the 2025 campaign after undergoing quadruple bypass surgery.
Suzuki, spent the last three years under the wing of Angels executive Perry Minasian as a special assistant.
Before dabbling into management, the Hawaii-native played 16 years in the majors. Suzuki made his MLB debut on June 9, 2007 for the then-Oakland Athletics. He spent seven years in oakland before being dealt to the Nationals in 2012.
Interestingly enough, he would be re-signed by the A's the following season before he bounced around and found himself with the Twins, Braves, and a second stint with the Nationals where he won his sole World Series title alongside Anthony Rendon.
In 2021, he made a return to California as a member of the Angels. He would spent two seasons with the club before hanging it up on October 4, 2023, which happened to be his 39th birthday, against his old club in the A's.
