Though the 2025 season was one to forget for the Arizona Diamondbacks, second baseman Ketel Marte put in a strong showing on an individual level.

Finishing the regular season with a .283 batting average, 28 home runs and 72 RBIs, Marte earned his third All-Star selection and second Silver Slugger award, while also being included in the All-MLB first team for the second time in his career.

Despite being one of the D-backs' most influential players, Ketel Marte may still be on his way out of Phoenix this winter, as the Serpents are reportedly listening to trade offers for the infielder in an effort to cut payroll next season.

On Tuesday's episode of "Snakes Territory", insider Jesse Friedman spoke about the recent Brandon Nimmo–Marcus Semien trade between the New York Mets and the Texas Rangers respectively, and how it could have an indirect effect on Marte's future.

"The Mets acquire Marcus Semien from the Texas Rangers in exchange for Brandon Nimmo," Friedman said. (49:17) "Both guys who are probably on the downturn of their respective careers, they both make a decent amount of money and somehow, this trade came together and made sense for both sides.

"The implications here for the D-backs here (are) not huge, but we did think it was worth noting, the Mets were probably one of the top potential suitors for Ketel Marte, if that trade somehow was to come together. Now the Mets have Marcus Semien, that's probably not going to happen."

Trading Ketel Marte may be the price Arizona Diamondbacks must pay to shore up their pitching staff, per insider

Though the offense performed well, pitching was the Arizona Diamondbacks' Achilles heel in 2025. Ending the season with a collective ERA of 4.49, the D-backs ranked 23rd out of 30 franchises.

As a result, improving their pitching staff has to be top priority for the front office this offseason, and trading away one of their best players in Ketel Marte may be the price they must pay to do so, according to insider Steve Gilbert.

Within November 26's edition of his D-backs Beat newsletter, Gilbert explained why a big trade may be a necessary to facilitate the kind of pitching additions the D-backs will be targeting.

"The Diamondbacks need to add pitching this offseason," Gilbert wrote. "For two straight seasons, they have wasted outstanding production from the offense with pitching struggles.
"The price of good starting pitching on the free-agent market figures to be high, and adding two quality starters and a couple of back-end bullpen pieces simply through free agency seems unlikely. That means the Diamondbacks will need to explore the trade market."
