Cody Bellinger had a fairly successful run with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2017 to 2022. He was one of the best sluggers in the MLB in the first four seasons, but a damaging season in 2021 and 2022 led to him being non-tendered by the organization, with whom he had reached three World Series.

Since then, the Dodgers have made it to two more Fall Classics, winning both are only looking to get better. According to Bellinger's agent, Scott Boras, speaking to Dodgers Nation during the MLB Winter Meetings, Bellinger hasn't ruled out re-joining the Los Angeles Dodgers in free agency.

"He loved his time as a Dodger," Boras said. "There's no doubt about it. It was always good. He won a World Championship there. He won MVP there, Rookie Year. When you do that, I think you're going to like where you're playing. So, yeah, it's something where he has a very open mind about free agency and the possibilities."

In six seasons with the club, Bellinger amassed a .248 average with 152 home runs and 422 RBIs with an .818 OPS. He played for the Chicago Cubs in 2023 and won the MLB Comeback Player of the Year that season, leading to a three-year contract. He was traded at the end of the first year, joining the New York Yankees in 2025, and hitting at .272 with 29 home runs and 98 RBIs, finishing 14th in the American League MVP standings.

Bellinger could be a much-needed versatile outfielder in the Dodgers' setup. They currently only have Teoscar Hernandez and Andy Pages guaranteed to start in the outfield. LA could move out utility man Tommy Edman to center field from time to time, but getting a permanent slugger like their former MVP could secure their future.

"Well, I think in today's world, everybody views the Dodgers as a Goliath, and when Goliath wants something, we'll see," Boras added. "They are people that really have shown a great amount of acuity to put together winning teams, and I don't expect anything different from them going forward."

Scott Boras explains Dodgers' decision of non-tendering Cody Bellinger

Scott Boras also revealed that the Dodgers' President of Baseball Operations, Andrew Friedman, had no intention of parting ways with Bellinger, stressing that they kept faith in his abilities to bounce back. The team's decision was purely on a financial level.

"I remember talking to Andrew Friedman. Andrew told me when we were there that we all think this guy's going to return to health," he explained. "He's going to be normal. He's going to be a fantastic player. So, this was not something where the Dodgers didn't feel what they felt about him at the time that they even let him go. It was more an economic element at the time where he'd been hurt."

Bellinger would hope that Boras takes care of his personal finances and attracts mega deals from his suitors, unlike two seasons prior. He was part of the Boras Four, which included other clients like Matt Chapman, Jordan Montgomery and Blake Snell. The quartet had to wait for a contract because of Boras' hard negotiating tactics, which analysts noted had a major influence on their play.
