Cody Bellinger's reunion with the New York Yankees has sparked major buzz in the 2025 free agency. However, despite the outfielder being their No. 1 priority, the team is exploring alternatives to fill the gap.

MLB analyst Andy Martino shared that the Bronx Bombers might not go all-in on one player as they did with Juan Soto last offseason. The team offered Soto a 16-year $760 million contract, but the player signed with the Mets on a 15-year $765 million deal.

If Cody Bellinger’s market demands increase, the Yankees might pull out of the race. Martino said the Yankees' disinterest could open the door for the Mets to sign the 30-year-old.

"The Yankees want him, but this isn't a Juan Soto thing where they're just going to keep bidding and bidding and bidding," Martino said.

The Mets' pursuit of Bellinger will also depend on their stance with Pete Alonso. Martino believes the Yankees are not going to be engaged in bidding wars with other teams this offseason.

"While I still believe the Yankees are the frontrunner for Bellinger, where they're at this offseason, I can tell you, they're not going to chase. If the market for Bellinger goes at 6-7 years or whatever the Yankees consider unreasonable, they're just not doing bidding wars this year, I don't think.”

He added that Bellinger is available to sign with the highest bidder, which might not be the NY Yankees. Yankees manager Aaron Boone also said that the team wants the outfielder back, but they’ll “see how it shakes out” in free agency.

Aaron Boone praised Cody Bellinger’s versatility and being one of the key members in the locker room. However, he admitted that Bellinger has earned the right to test free agency.

“Who he was in the room, his performance between the lines on both sides of the ball, his athleticism, his versatility. Who wouldn't want a player like that?" Boone said.
“He's earned the right now to get to this point of his career of free agency as still a relatively young man. We’ll see what happens, we’ll see how it shakes out. As far as the player and the person, he’s a good one."

While Boone isn’t directly involved in player recruitments, he said he’ll still keep in touch with a player where he sees fit.
