According to Brian Cashman, speaking during an online press meet on Wednesday, the team is yet to have any contract extension talks with Chisholm.

"We have not had any conversations outside of, you know, he's looking forward to playing next year," Cashman said on Wednesday via SNY. "He loves playing here. If you want to have a legitimate conversation about value, open to a longer-term conversation as well. But that's the extent of it."

Fans had varied opinions regarding the Yankees' stance. While there were calls for the team to bring in Arizona Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte after latest trade rumors, some section of the fanbase also questioned the team's positioning of not wanting to extend Chisholm if they didn't have a replacement in mind.

Here are a few reactions:

"No way. Send him to the [moon] and bring Ketel Marte," a fan wrote.

"Just send him to AZ for Ketel dad," another fan said.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. had a successful offensive season, hitting 31 home runs and 80 RBIs, along with 31 stolen bases. He was awarded the American League Silver Slugger award at second base. However, defensively, Chisholm has struggled at the middle of the diamond, recording an MLB-worst 12 errors at the position.

Diamondbacks currently not open to trade Ketel Marte

As reported by Dbacks insider John Gambadoro on Wednesday, there are as many as seven teams that have checked in with the Arizona Diamondbacks for a possible trade for Ketel Marte.

General Manager Mike Hazen stated in an interview during the GM Meetings in Las Vegas this week that the trade is currently not happening, although he previously stated the team would be listening to options for their offensive players to strengthen their pitching.

The Yankees are likely to be one of the teams in the hunt to get Marte. Before heading into free agency, Chisholm is expected to earn around $11 million in his final year of arbitration. Marte is signed to a six-year, $116,500,000 contract.
