Bobby Witt Jr. reacts to Royals' big decision on Salvador Perez

The Kansas City Royals signed Salvador Perez to a two-year, $25 million contract extension on Tuesday, according to Fox Sports. The deal replaces the $13.5 million club option the team had for the upcoming season.

Perez is a nine-time All-Star and has won the Silver Slugger and Gold Glove Awards five times each. He was the World Series MVP when the Royals won the Fall Classic in 2015.

The 35-year-old Venezuelan backstop has played his entire MLB career, which began in 2011, with the Royals. While Perez is the veteran voice, Bobby Witt Jr. is the future of the Royals, and according to some, even the MLB.

After Perez shared the news of the contract extension on an Instagram post on Tuesday, Witt dropped a two-word comment.

"My captain!!" Witt wrote.

Perez has been the captain of the Royals since 2023. Many see Witt as following in his footsteps. The Royals signed Witt to an 11-year, $288.8 million deal last year. The deal includes a club option after the 11th year that could get Witt. $89 million for the next three years.

The Royals' social media handle and Eric Hosmer, a former teammate of Perez, also commented on the post.

"Our Captain 💙," Royals' handle commented.

"The best!" Hosmer reacted.

Eric Hosmer played for the Royals from 2011 to 2017. He was part of the 2015 World Series-winning squad. During his stay in Kansas City, he earned an All-Star selection, four Gold Glove Awards and one Silver Slugger Award.

Salvador Perez's wife reacts to his contract extension

Salvaodor Perez has been married to his wife, Maria Gabriela, since October 2019. They had known each other for several years. Together, they have three children: two sons, Salvador Jr. and Johan, and a daughter, Paulina.

On Tuesday, the Royals' Instagram handle shared a single-snap post of Perez, announcing they had extended his contract.

"We have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with C Salvador Perez through the 2027 season!" the caption of the post read.

Perez's wife re-shared the post on her Instagram story.

"Thank You God," she captioned the post (translated to English from Spanish).

When Perez was 4 years old, his father left the family. Since then, he has been cared for by his mother, Yilda Diaz, and his grandfather. Together with his wife, Perez's mother and grandfather have been the cornerstone of his life.
