Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal enjoyed a fantastic campaign in 2025. Finishing the regular season with a 13-6 record, a 2.21 ERA and 241 strikeouts, the southpaw played a starring role in helping his team make it to the postseason, ending the year with his second consecutive AL MVP award.

Looking to build on the success of 2025, the Tigers are expected to add some much-needed quality to their roster this offseason. According to insider Ryan Finkelstein, the four-time World Series winners should look at bringing in All-Star Ranger Suarez to be the deputy to Tarik Skubal. In terms of potential contract length, Finkelstein claimed a five-year deal would make sense for the Tigers.

"I love the idea of Ranger Suarez going to Detroit and being the No.2 to (Tarik) Skubal," Finkelstein said. (11:45) "You have a chance to win big this year, and then, if you lose Skubal, and you want a stable arm to sort of build around, I think Ranger makes a lot of sense.

"I just think that this is a team that might not shop at the very top of the market, I think Ranger Suarez fits their price bracket a little better. A five-year deal for Ranger, going to the Tigers, I think it makes a lot of sense."

"It's all out of my control" - Tarik Skubal distances himself from trade rumors

While the Tigers continue to look at options to bolster their pitching staff, their most influential player, Tarik Skubal, has been linked with a trade away from Comerica Park.

Though several big-market franchises continue to keep an eye on Skubal, the ace distanced himself from the rumors surrounding him on November 20's episode of Foul Territory.

"The way social media is, it's hard not to see things about yourself, especially when it's talking about trades and kind of all those hypotheticals," Skubal said. "It's not (going to impact the way I'm going to work out or the way I'm going to throw or prepare to get my body ready to go for another season. So it's all out of my control. I think as a player, you don't really like, I mean, unless you want to be traded, but like, that's a whole different situation.

"But it's not like I want to be traded. So it is, it does kind of like, you know, 'hey, why am I in this? Why am I in this conversation to begin with?'... I try to just stay off of it and not look at it."

Skubal's comments will make for good news for Tigers fans, who will be hoping to enjoy one more memorable year with their ace before he enters free agency.
