Yankees legend Alex Rodriguez sent a short and sweet message after Robinson Cano broke down in ttears of emotion in what is being billed as potentially his last game on US soil. played Saturday afternoon at Citi Field, during the RD–PR Showdown, an exhibition game between All-Stars of the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico winter leagues.

The moment of emotion came during a stoppage in play in the bottom of the seventh inning as Cano exited the game and everyone rose to their feet. Cano, who was 1-for-3 with a double during the afternoon, was given a sendoff by teammates and fans as he stepped off the dirt at Citi Field one last time, naturally moved by the moment.

Citi Field delivered a powerful tribute to Robinson Cano on Saturday during the RD–PR Showdown, an exhibition between Dominican and Puerto Rican winter-league All-Stars.

The Dominican team won 6–2, but the day ultimately centered on Cano, who took part in what is expected to be his final game on U.S. soil.

Before first pitch, Cano spoke candidly about what the moment meant to him, reflecting on his years in New York and the connection he built with the fan base.

"Coming back here again and being able to play again means a lot to me, as I was here and got to witness the greatness of the Mets team, the treatment, the fans with that desire for a championship," Cano said. "Coming back here again to this field, really, it means a lot to me, and this day will have a special place in my heart."

The tribute took place in front of a full ballpark. All members of the Dominican roster came out onto the field wearing Cano's No. 24, and the game briefly came to a halt in the seventh inning when retired Mets second baseman Luis Castillo emerged from the dugout to escort Cano off the field.

The 17-year MLB veteran, who spent four seasons with the Mets from 2019 to 2022 was visibly emotional, pausing several times to wipe tears as the crowd rose to its feet.
