The John Cena/Edge rivalry is a prime example of WWE's Ruthless Aggression Era. Almost every time, they competed for the company's top title, whether it was the WWE Championship or the World Heavyweight Championship, demonstrating the significance of their feud to the Stamford-based promotion. The rivalry features many incredible and nostalgic moments, including a notable one on an episode of RAW in July 2006, just before their WWE Title match at an upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event.

AEW star Cope (fka Edge) and John Cena recently paid tributes to each other

As of today, John Cena has entered the final stage of his retirement run, while Cope, although currently absent from AEW programming, remains a genuine star in Tony Khan's promotion. This means the two former rivals are probably never going to cross paths again. However, the two did manage to reference each other recently, paying tribute by using a signature move of the other.

During a recent episode of WWE SmackDown, John Cena faced the then-United States Champion, Sami Zayn, for his title. In the match, Cena paid tribute to many of his wrestling rivals by using their signature moves, including Cope's (formerly Edge's) Spear. Meanwhile, Cope reciprocated the homage at All Out, where he executed Cena's five knuckle shuffle.
