The Hurt Syndicate was involved in a match blunder on the recent episode of Dynamite. On the go-home show of Full Gear, two matches took place, which determined the first and second spots in the Casino Gauntlet contest at the pay-per-view, the winner of which will capture the AEW National Championship. In the opening match, Bobby Lashley defeated Ricochet to earn the top spot.Shelton Benjamin and Mike Bailey locked horns for the second spot. While the match was entertaining, it had a weird ending. After a vicious superkick, Benjamin went for the cover. However, despite Speedball not kicking out, the referee stopped the count. Shelton had to pin him once again. MVP was also visibly furious at the ringside. Fans were concerned that the latter got knocked out.As per Wrestling Observer Live's Bryan Alvarez, the Hurt Syndicate member decided to finish the match early as he believed Mike Bailey did a good sell on the superkick. It seems the referee didn't hear the audible and was unaware. Meanwhile, Speedball followed the audible and kept his shoulders on the mat. Alvarez said that it was 'miscommunication.'“As it turns out, everybody is fine. The finish was going to be a superkick… Shelton hits this kick, and Speedball takes this incredible full‑flip bump and it looks like he’s dead. So Shelton decides it ain’t going to get better than that. He calls the audible — this is the finish. Apparently the ref didn’t hear him, and so the ref stops the count because that wasn’t actually supposed to be the finish. You can’t say it’s Speedball’s fault, he just laid there like he was supposed to. It was a miscommunication… There was no injury involved," he said.
