Paul Wight (FKA Big Show) has just clarified whether he has plans to retire from AEW and from the ring anytime soon. This comes amidst his absence from any form of competition in the squared circle for two years. The WWE icon has not competed in any match since November 2023, which was a Street Fight. He would make sporadic appearances on-screen for the Jacksonville-based promotion, and some of these would lead to him getting involved in matches, but this would never result in anything further than that. During his recent appearance on Notsam Wrestling Live, Paul Wight discussed a return to the ring and stated that he wouldn't want it to be out of pity. He mentioned how he would gauge his capabilities, and if he could no longer do what he once could, it might be time to retire.“The last thing I’m gonna do is go out in that ring and have people go, ‘aww, poor Paul. They should just kill him, like Old Yeller or something.’ We’re not gonna have that. If I’m not out there humping and bumping and getting after everything and slapping people’s souls out of their chest… then it’s time to hang up the boots.”Pau Wight had hope that he could still compete and claimed to have made progress. Wight was focusing mostly on his recovery from some health issues, and then they would work on getting back to the ring.“We’re still moving forward, there’s progress being made. Everything I’m dealing with now is mostly soft tissue, getting that stuff to work… we’ll get that back and we’ll be in the ring.” [H/T RSN]Paul Wight shares unfortunate injury updateDuring the same interview, Paul Wight briefly spoke about his physical state in recent times. He revealed that he has been having multiple surgeries on different areas of his body. But it doesn't seem like this is getting to him.“Dude, I’m hoping — it’s just a week-by-week thing. I had a small back surgery done a couple months ago… You play long enough, the bill comes due. I’ve had a major surgery every frickin’ year! For about the past five — whether it’s a knee surgery or a hip surgery… I feel like that old pickup truck. Like, OK, what’s broken now?”WrestlePurists @WrestlePuristsLINKPaul Wight comments on potentially wrestling again in the future, says he isn’t ready to hang up the boots yet: “It’s just a week-by-week thing. I had a small back surgery done a couple months ago… I’ve had like a major surgery every frickin’ year for about the past five,Paul Wight has yet to have a proper run in his long in-ring career. Should he be in a good enough condition to compete, he could go for one final run, and one where he makes the most of it all before hanging up his boots.
