A former WWE champion has shared details about putting over Adam Copeland (fka Edge) during their time together in the Stamford-based promotion. The champion was part of a major heel faction at the time. That champion is David Otunga, who has held the WWE Tag Team titles twice in his career, once with John Cena and once with Michael McGillicutty (a.k.a. Curtis Axel). Otunga started in World Wrestling Entertainment in Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) before gaining fame as part of the villainous group the Nexus in 2010, which was formed by the rookies from NXT at the time. Although Otunga left in 2019, his tenure with the promotion, especially during the time Nexus dominated, is remembered by many fans. Earlier today, Otunga recalled an incident from his Nexus days in which AEW star Adam Copeland (fka Edge) had put him over.Taking to X, the 45-year-old shared a clip from what appeared to be a lumberjack match against Edge in which he pinned the Rated-R Superstar to win the bout."There were a lot of people in #WWE who easily could’ve said no to putting me over - aka losing to me. But when you’re in a Lumberjack match with the Rated R Superstar @RatedRCope with your #Nexus role on the line - you gotta do what you gotta do!Check out my YouTube link ⬇️," Otunga wrote on XCheck out his post below:David Otunga says Nexus cut ties with former WWE star Bryan Danielson (fka Daniel Bryan)In a recent appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Otunga discussed the glory days of his WWE faction, the Nexus, and revealed that the group is still connected through a group chat. However, the 45-year-old also mentioned that AEW star Bryan Danielson is not in the group.“Everybody but Daniel Bryan. I mean, he turned on us at SummerSlam. Everybody else is in it. We’re all for one. You’re either Nexus or against us," said OtungaCheck out his comments here. It is worth noting that Otunga appeared playful when revealing details about Bryan Danielson, then shifted to a more serious tone to mention that their group experienced a lot together, starting back in FCW, and that genuine friendships were formed along the way to the WWE main roster. Bryan's exclusion from the group chat might be due to his limited time in the group.
