An AEW fan-favorite has taken to social media and shared his response to Matt Cardona finally making his long-anticipated WWE return, but as his former character, Zack Ryder. The star in question, Danhausen, has been missing from the Tony Khan-led promotion's programming for over a year now.

On Friday Night SmackDown, LA Knight battled a mystery opponent in a first-round matchup of The Last Time is Now Tournament. The wrestler turned out to be none other than the returning The Long Island Iced-Z.

The Megastar picked up the win over Ryder in just under nine minutes, advancing a step closer to the massive opportunity of facing John Cena in his final bout, and possibly unseating him for his newly won Intercontinental Championship.

Fans on social media have been celebrating Matt Cardona's WWE comeback, albeit pointing out the fact that he did not return as the King of the Indies like many had expected him to do. Danhausen seemed to join in on the fun on X (formerly Twitter) a few hours ago, evidently sharing his absurd new contact name for the former United States Champion.

Cardona's reversion to Zack Ryder is an interesting decision, viewers have noted, in light of the star's appearance as his independent circuit persona this past October on NXT, where he lost to Josh Briggs in singles competition.

The Indy God is no stranger to Danhausen, who had defeated Cardona one-on-one at last year's GCW Role Model. Amid his long-running programming absence, it was reported this past August that The Very Nice, Very Evil grappler had his AEW contract extended due to added injury time.

The report also claimed that the Michigan native had been looking to part ways with the company, and is now signed on till 2026.

What has AEW star Danhausen been up to in the meantime?

The last time Danhausen was seen inside an AEW ring was during the Zero Hour pre-show to the 2023 Worlds End pay-per-view. At the event, the face-painted star unsuccessfully participated in a Battle Royal for a shot at the TNT Championship.

Although he has not been featured on All Elite Wrestling television in over a year, Danhausen has kept his skills sharp by performing regularly on the independent circuit. He has competed in a number of promotions, including GCW, The Wrestling Revolver, Glory Pro Wrestling, House of Glory, and World Series Wrestling, just to name a few.

The 35-year-old was seen in action earlier this month at GCW/GMW Green Mountains And Me, where he failed to dethrone Effy for the GCW World Title.
