Congratulations to AEW Icon Kazuchika Okada

AEW superstar Kazuchika Okada, who has attained an iconic status in the Jacksonville-based promotion, has now reached another major milestone for the company.

Kazuchika Okada joined All Elite Wrestling early last year after earning a legendary reputation in New Japan Pro Wrestling. The reigning Unified Champion quickly proved himself by winning the Continental Championship from Eddie Kingston on an episode of Dynamite last year. This year, he also claimed the International Championship from Kenny Omega at All In, unifying the titles. Although both championships are now unified, the Rainmaker achieved a significant milestone with one of the titles, the Continental title, as he has now surpassed 600 days as Continental Champion.

Okada won the Continental title on March 20, 2024, and today marks the 603rd day of him holding the championship.

AEW Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada will be Hiroshi Tanahashi's final opponent

Legendary Japanese wrestler Hiroshi Tanahashi is currently on his retirement run, which he announced in October of last year. The Ace of the Universe, who last performed in the Jacksonville-based promotion in the Lights Out Steel Cage match at NJPW X AEW Forbidden Door, will end his run on January 4, 2026, at Wrestle Kingdom.

Last Saturday, Tanahashi was in action at NJPW New Japan Road in Anjo, where he faced and defeated Yuto-Ice. Following a post-match promo from Tanahashi, his old NJPW rival and All Elite Wrestling star Kazuchika Okada appeared in a shocking turn of events to challenge him to a match at Tokyo Dome on January 4, 2026, confirming himself as the legendary wrestler's final opponent.

The Rainmaker had beaten Tanahashi the last time they faced off at the New Beginning event in Okada the previous year. It will be interesting to see if Tanahashi can secure the win this time.
