CM Punk's backstage incidents in AEW changed Tony Khan, says 36-year-old star

A popular star claimed that CM Punk's infamous backstage incidents in AEW changed Tony Khan as a businessman. The Second City Saint was terminated from the Jacksonville-based promotion in 2023.

The 36-year-old star, Joey Janela believes CM Punk's AEW incidents changed Tony Khan. Punk made his blockbuster return to wrestling through All Elite Wrestling in 2021 after seven years. However, aside from some memorable moments, Punk's run in the promotion was riddled with a lot of controversies.

The Second City Saint was involved in an infamous brawl out incident with The Elite that allegedly took place after All Out 2022. At the All In 2023 event, Punk got into a backstage altercation with Jack Perry that led to his termination from the company. He later returned to the WWE and is the current World Heavyweight Champion.

In an interview with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, the ex-AEW star, Joey Janela claimed that Tony Khan changed as a businessman after all the incidents involving Punk:

"Well, that whole thing happened with the Punk and the fight and all that and the drama and all the bullsh*t and Tony’s like, ‘Alright, now I gotta be a businessman and stop getting involved in the bullsh*t,’ you know?” Janela said. [H/T Fightful]

Former AEW star says things with CM Punk could've been different if he were there

The former AEW star, Joey Janela recently claimed that if he were with the company during All In 2023, things with CM Punk and Jack Perry could've been different because he was friends with Perry.

Taking to the X social media platform, Janela also clarified that he has no issues with Punk:

"No issues with him at all, could’ve been different if I stuck around AEW because my close friendship with Jack. Always a big fan since I was a teenager, had all his best of DVDs," Janela wrote.

Meanwhile, Punk recently won the World Heavyweight title in the WWE and is currently involved in a storyline with The Vision and Logan Paul.
