Tony Khan and a few wrestlers founded AEW in 2019. The company is now a global brand and WWE's biggest competitor. Their shows stream on HBO Max, an OTT platform which is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD).

Things might change for All Elite Wrestling now since Netflix has officially acquired WBD. According to Deadline, Netflix secured this deal by offering approximately $28 per share, mostly in cash. Unfortunately, this might spell doom for the Jacksonville-based company.

Netflix has the exclusive international rights to World Wrestling Entertainment programming. The Stamford-based company is the world's biggest professional wrestling company, and there is a strong possibility that AEW will be severely affected because of the deal.

Many fans are under the impression that AEW will get canceled. However, this might not happen. Reports suggest that it is unlikely that TNT Sports will go to Netflix. Instead, they are expected to form a new standalone linear television company

WBD's sale to Netflix called “Tilted And Unfair” by Paramount

Paramount recently criticized Netflix's acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. They claimed that the sale process was completely unfair. They wrote a letter to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav in which they criticized the 2022-founded company.

"It has become increasingly clear, through media reporting and otherwise, that WBD appears to have abandoned the semblance and reality of a fair transaction process, thereby abdicating its duties to stockholders, and embarked on a myopic process with a predetermined outcome that favors a single bidder. We specifically request and expect this letter will be shared and discussed with the full board of directors of WBD,” read the letter. [H/T Deadline]

Only time will tell what the future holds for Tony Khan and co. Hopefully, the Jacksonville-based company will survive this setback and become a bigger global brand.
