Samoa Joe recently became a two-time AEW World Champion. He did it by dethroning the previous title holder, "Hangman" Adam Page, at Full Gear 2025.

Joe ending Hangman's reign was unexpected. Fans assumed the latter to hold the title for many more months. However, it seems like Tony Khan has had a change of heart. The Samoan Submission Machine is an amazing choice to hold the company's top title. Hopefully, he will have a lengthy run.

Even though Joe is one of the most feared names in all of wrestling, many AEW stars can stand with him toe to toe. Joe's reign could be over in a few weeks if the right candidate steps up.

#3. Anthony Bowens

Although this is an unlikely choice right now, Anthony Bowens has the potential to be a huge name in the world of pro wrestling. The Pride of Pro Wrestling is a former AEW World Tag Team Champion and a former AEW World Trios Champion. If Tony Khan begins building him up from now, he will be ready to challenge Joe and dethrone him in a few months.

Bowens is gay, and earlier this year, he revealed that he wants to be All Elite Wrestling's first gay singles champion.

"I fully intend to win gold. I’d love to be AEW’s first gay singles champion. So I have a lot of things I would like to accomplish, and that all starts right now,” he said. [H/T: Yahoo Sports]

Tony Khan might fulfil the 34-year-old's dream someday. And that day might not be that far. For the next few months, we might witness the former world tag team champion have amazing character development and matches. Bowens vs. Joe will certainly be a banger if Khan books their match.

#2. Will Ospreay

Will Ospreay is one of AEW's most important names. Unfortunately, he is currently inactive because he underwent surgery on his neck a few months back. He is recovering well, and he is expected to return next year. The Aerial Assassin is a former two-time AEW International Champion, and it certainly looks like he will become world champion someday.

Ospreay's first match on his return could be against none other than Samoa Joe for the AEW World Title. This bout has the potential to be one of the greatest matches in the company's history, and it will be an amazing moment if the English star manages to dethrone Joe.

#1. Swerve Strickland could dethone Samoa Joe for the second time

Ad

Swerve Strickland became the AEW World Champion for the first time in his career by ending Samoe Joe's first reign at Dynasty 2024. He and Hangman Page are currently feuding with the Samoan Submission Machine and his Opps faction. Interestingly, it seems like the New Flavor is going to get a title match soon.

History might very well repeat itself soon. The former WWE star could, after all, be the one to dethrone Samoa Joe for the second time. Only time will tell what the future holds for them.
