Jon Moxley has been on a downward spiral lately in AEW. He has been on a continuous losing streak, tapping out to Darby Allin at WrestleDream 2025 and then to Kyle O'Reilly at Dynamite: Blood and Guts, before submitting to The Violent Artist once again at Full Gear.

Eager to bounce back to winning ways, The One True King entered this year's Continental Classic alongside his stablemates, Claudio Castagnoli and Pac. Despite a strong start with a win over Mascara Dorada, Moxley suffered a massive upset as he was defeated by his own general, The Swiss Cyborg, in his second Blue League bout. To make matters worse, he lost again to Konosuke Takeshita in a block match last Saturday.

For several weeks now, fans have been speculating on the likelihood of Moxley's imminent departure from the Death Riders, with Moxley being expected to either leave the stable himself after losing his remaining confidence or get violently ejected by the group as they did to Bryan Danielson last year. If such an angle does come to pass, a new face will have to fill the former World Champ's shoes in the faction. Let us consider three stars who might fit the bill.

#3. Former IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion Gabe Kidd

It was earlier this year at Dynamite: Beach Break, when Samoa Joe faced Jon Moxley for his AEW World Title inside a Steel Cage, that Gabe Kidd revealed his alliance with the Death Riders as he helped the champion retain against The Destroyer. He was referred to as the group's hired mercenary and helped them wreak havoc en route to Double or Nothing 2025. Additionally, he intervened on the stable's behalf during this year's Anarchy in the Arena match against the company's babyface alliance, in a futile effort.

The "War Ready" brawler later returned ahead of All In: Texas, and joined Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta in a failed bid to challenge The Opps for the AEW World Trios Titles at the pay-per-view. The following month, he teamed with the Death Riders and The Young Bucks to unsuccessfully battle the team of Darby Allin, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Will Ospreay, and The Golden Lovers in a Lights Out Steel Cage match at Forbidden Door 2025.

Kidd has not competed in an All Elite Wrestling ring since, although he did appear at Dynamite: Blood and Guts to help Pac lay waste to Darby Allin. As of late, the Bullet Club War Dogs member has been performing primarily in NJPW, where he is currently signed. However, he has reportedly made a good impression backstage in AEW, and as such, could play a key role in an angle as big as Jon Moxley's ejection from the Death Riders.

The former IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion may not yet be qualified to take on the mantle of the group's leader, but he could certainly return to replenish its ranks after Mox's potential exit.

#2. Reigning IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Konosuke Takeshita

For several weeks now, tensions have been simmering in the ranks of The Don Callis Family, especially between AEW Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada and the recently crowned IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, Konosuke Takeshita. In the aftermath of Full Gear 2025, ahead of the start of this year's Continental Classic, The Rainmaker, the defending Continental Champion, declared himself for the tournament, as did The Alpha. Even Kyle Fletcher, frustrated with his TNT Title loss, announced himself for the tourney.

With wins over Roderick Strong and now Jon Moxley, Takeshita stands alongside Claudio Castagnoli with six points at the top of the Blue League. On the other hand, in the Gold League, Fletcher also holds six points at the moment, although Okada is lagging behind with only 3 to his name. While the cracks between the Callis Family's top names seem to be widening, the group also seems to be on a potential collision course with the Death Riders, especially since the two factions crossed paths backstage a few weeks ago.

Moxley recently took aim at the Don Callis Family and its members, comparing their motivations and work ethic to his own crew's. Still, he couldn't defeat Konosuke Takeshita last Saturday on AEW Collision. Some fans see the possibility of the Japanese star dethroning Okada as Continental Champion, which might cause the rest of the Callis Family to turn on him and kick him out after the C2. The heel faction could simultaneously begin a war with the Death Riders and specifically take Moxley out of commission.

The now-babyface Death Riders could then approach Takeshita to step up in Mox's place in order to take down The Invisible Hand and his goons. The latter could believably accept the offer, considering the fact that he had teamed with Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, and Pac before, during the 2023 Blood and Guts match.

#3. Former AEW International Champion Roderick Strong

Earlier this year, Daniel Garcia established a bond of respect with The Paragon. This did not sit well with Roderick Strong and Kyle O'Reilly, so when The Red Death joined the Death Riders, they viewed the act as a slight against their friendship. Additionally, this storyline also brought The Messiah of The Backbreaker face-to-face with Jon Moxley once again, as he battled the latter at AEW Dynamite: September to Remember in their first singles match in over a decade.

Roddy fell short against Moxley, unfortunately, thanks to the Death Riders' interference. Last month, however, Strong faced The Purveyor of Violence once more in a bout set to decide whether his alliance with The Conglomeration or Moxley's stable would head into this year's Blood and Guts with the advantage on their side. The former International Champion emerged victorious in the match via count-out owing to a massive assist from Darby Allin, who joined him in the imminent violent steel cage war.

At Full Gear 2025, Kyle O'Reilly submitted Jon Moxley, but the injuries he had sustained during the match caused him to miss out on the Continental Classic. Roddy took his teammate's spot in the tournament instead.

Although he has yet to score a win in the C2- having taken losses from Konosuke Takeshita and Orange Cassidy - he could still advance in the tourney farther than Moxley does. In that event, the Death Riders could possibly boot Moxley out and replace him with Strong, especially if he can beat Mox in the tournament decisively.

With Worlds End 2025 closing in, it remains to be seen what awaits Jon Moxley and the Death Riders in AEW and in the Continental Classic.
